JEWELRY

INSTALATIONS

THIS PROJECT MARKED THE CONCLUSION OF OUR SECOND SEMESTER. I ANALYZED
LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART AS A BRAND, CONDUCTED A PHYSICAL STORE
ANALYSIS, AND SELECTED AN ARTWORK FROM THE MUSEUM AS INSPIRATION. USING
DESIGN THINKING, I CREATED A JEWELRY PIECE AS A SOUVENIR REFLECTING THE
CHOSEN ARTWORK, SUPPORTED BY VISUAL AND WRITTEN STORYTELLING.

In this project, our first task was to complete a written assignment about the Louisiana Museum, its store, and a chosen artwork. In my paper, I analyzed how Louisiana’s store could better differentiate itself from its competition. It became evident that the store lacked products that clearly correlated with the art showcased in the museum. I aimed to address this in the next phase of the project.

I selected the piece “Spider Couple” by Louise Bourgeois, which is part of the permanent collection. This artwork presented an excellent opportunity to create a meaningful souvenir that could be sold in the museum store.

The next step was to commence my design process, utilizing the design thinking method to provide a structured approach and facilitate iterative development. The initial assignment served as the foundation, emphasizing the empathize and define phases.

To further define the project, I created a mood board and identified key design drivers. This was followed by an extensive sketching process to kickstart the ideate phase. I then translated my chosen design into Rhino, creating a digital model.

To ensure accuracy, I produced several 3D wax prints, refining the measurements with each iteration. Ultimately, I cast the final design in sterling silver.

In the end, I created a ring that allows you to carry the essence of the sculpture with you wherever you go. At the center of the spider’s body is an egg, incorporating the symbolic meaning of the original artwork into the souvenir jewelry. Additionally, I developed branding material, including a pamphlet that delves deeper into this symbolism, discussing the challenges of motherhood. You can view the pamphlet on the project page.
